Corsica - SardiniaA yacht charter to the Mediterranean island of Corsica with a side trip to neighboring Sardinia presents a unique opportunity to sample two different European cultures side by side in a breathtaking, natural setting. Tucked between the French Riviera and Italy's western cast, these two island prizes are each claimed by a different neighbor. They offer an irresistible combination of unspoiled beauty and sophisticated resort retreats.

The French island of Corsica has earned its place in history as Napoleon's birthplace. "I would recognize Corsica with my eyes closed," he once said, referring to the scents of lavender, myrtle, wild mint, honeysuckle and eucalyptus that waft seaward from the island. Corsica's sights are also extraordinary. A spine of mountains dominates the interior, largely untouched by human habitation. The coast is cut like a jigsaw puzzle by jagged cliffs and jewel-like bays bordered by sparkling white beaches. Medieval fortresses and watchtowers dot these shores.

Sardinia, Italy's western outpost, has much the same dramatic geography as its neighbor. This island's northern shores attract the cream of European society and celebrities each summer. Prince Karim Aga Khan and a group of investors developed the chic resort area of Costa Smeralda - the Emerald Coast - back in the sixties, making it one of the Mediterranean's top yachting hot spots.

Day 1: Join your charter yacht at Porto Rotondo and cruise to Cala di Volpe, a well protected, deep shallow bay, that’s surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches.

Day 2: Enjoy an early morning swim before breakfast and then take a short cruise down to Olbia. View the city's major cathedral in the old town, the Byzantine Castello di Sa Paulazza and the recent archaeological discovery of 24 shipwrecks - 2 of them from the age of Nero and 16 from the fifth century A.D.  Overnight.

Day 3: A short cruise up the rugged eastern shore of the Costa Smeralda, takes you to Porto Cervo where the Aga Khan built a resort that takes full advantage of the rocky cliffs, protected beaches and stunning blue sea. Since then, the region has become one of the world's most exclusive retreats. Shop at trendy boutiques and visit the Stella Maris Church, which boasts the 'Sad Madonna' by El Greco.  Overnight.

Day 4: A relaxed start to the day will have you in the Maddalena Island area, located inside the Straits of Bonifacio along the northeastern coast of Sardinia. After lunch head over to Budelli, one of Italy's most enchanting beaches that’s famous for its coral shattered pink sand.  Overnight.

Day 5: Sail to Santa Maria for lunch and a swim. Ancient olive trees color the piazza while hill slopes, rising from the sea, greet the Spanish Tower that guards the bay. Head over to Bonifacio, the oldest town on Corsica.  Entering Bonifacio’s almost land-locked harbor is one of the most dramatic moments in sailing, as it opens magically before you revealing a totally protected harbor Enjoy dinner in one of the excellent seafood restaurants ashore.  Overnight.

Day 6: After breakfast take a short cruise over to Lavezzi for lunch and a swim. After touring the beautiful cove, head for Santa Tereza di Gallura. Wander amongst the huge sandstone "animals," natural formations that closely resemble elephants, rhinos, hippos and water buffalo. Take a walk on one of the many white sandy beaches.  Overnight.

Day 7: An early cruise takes you to Cala Yacca for lunch and a swim.  Continue on through the Fornelli Passage and arrive in the afternoon at the flourishing fishing port of Alghero.  This Spanish flavored town has narrow cobbled streets lined with flamboyant churches and wrought-iron balconies, boutiques and cafes, and workshops of craftsmen working the famed coral of Alghero. Around the town the coast offers many secluded bays and small inlets bordered by pine forests and high, jagged cliffs. Overnight.

Disembark in Alghero, ending your luxury, crewed Corsica/Sardinia yacht charter.
