Dubbed the “Sunshine State” for a reason, the Florida peninsula is a special place to find adventure or to just sit back and enjoy life. Offering a variety of cruising areas, charter is available down the east coast of Florida from West Palm Beach to Miami Beach, on to the Florida Keys, or along the western coast of Florida and even through the interior of Florida cruising the Okeechobee River.
Florida offers their own taste of the Caribbean with The Florida Keys. The Florida Keys are an archipelago of about 1700 islands in the southeast United States. They begin at the southeastern tip of Florida, about 15 miles south of Miami, and extend in a gentle arc south-southwest and then westward to Key West. Key West and Key Largo are just a couple of the most well known of this island group.
If the being outdoors is your thing, the Florida Keys are the place. As North America’s only living coral barrier reef, the Keys offer miles of crystal clear waters over coral reefs with tropic marine life. There are many snorkeling and diving locations or areas just to swim and explore, including the John Penekam Coral Reef State Park a 25 mile long preserve. With pristine shallows and flats all along the length of the Keys, the area is well known for excellent bone fishing. If you are an open sea angler, the deeper waters in the Keys have a full range of world famous fishing opportunities.
The Keys are richer in cultural opportunities than most tropical getaways. The Florida Keys are famous for harboring such historical luminaries as playwright Tennessee Williams, novelist Ernest Hemingway, and bird-chronicler John James Audubon. And of course, everyone is drawn to Key West, not just for the spectacular sunsets and stunning wildlife but for the free-spirited way of life, seen as a strong influence in Jimmy Buffet’s earlier songs.
Back up the coast South Beach offers a cultural diversity nestled next to the upscale Key Biscayne all of which is contrasted against the unique wild life of the Okeechobee. And all are cruising areas to visit on your next Florida charter.
