Mallorca

Largest of the legendary Balearic Islands, Mallorca is 62 miles long by 47 miles wide. It features high white cliffs with plenty of small bays and crystal blue waters. In the northwest, rugged mountains and rolling hills encompass numerous indentations that provide spectacular yacht charter anchorages. The northeast has the best sandy bays and attractive harbors. The southeast coast includes Porto Colom, the best natural harbor and anchorage in Mallorca. The capital of Palma, a renowned international resort, boasts sparkling nightclubs, casinos, shops, and beaches. Inland you will find unexpected beauty with olive groves and fruit orchards, Moorish terraced cultivation and dramatic mountain views.

Menorca

Ibiza-Balearic Islands-SpaThe smaller neighboring island (26 miles long by 11 miles wide) is Menorca. Menorca has much to offer with its stunning rocky cliffs, many resorts and attractive anchorages where you can escape from the crowds aboard your luxury charter yacht. The old capital of Ciudadela is well worth a visit. At Binibeca, an old fishing port, you will find the best in Menorca art.
 

Ibiza and Formentera

Ibiza, the most westerly of the Balearic Islands, is approximately the same size as Menorca. Ibiza has a rhythm and creativity all its own. Yacht charter destinations include several harbors and hundreds of quiet small anchorages around a rugged, dramatic coastline. The numerous resorts are surrounded by white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters. Formentera is the smaller island (10 miles long by 8 miles wide) with two beautiful beaches – Mitjorn and Tramuntana. Formentera (and its neighboring island Espalamador) are mainly undeveloped, featuring lagoons, salt plains, rocky cliffs, pine forests and sandy beaches. Formentera is perfect for getting away aboard your crewed charter yacht.

Weather        

Menorcan WindmillThe Balaeric Islands has an ideal climate for summer travelers with little rain and temperatures kept below 86 degrees in the summer. Temperatures remain nice in the spring and autumn and even in winter rarely drop before 50 degrees, although rain is more likely at this time of year. Water temperatures range from 64 degrees in May to 79 in August.

Travel            

Mallorca’s international airport, Son Sant Joan Airport is about five miles from Palma. Travelers from the US can fly to London, Madrid, Barcelona or just about any major European city to make a connection to Mallorca.

Language      

Spanish is the official language, but English is widely understood in areas frequented by tourists. Catalan, Galician and Basque are spoken in the relevant areas.

Currency       

The Euro is the currency of Spain.

What to Buy 

Mallorca is home to Majorca pearls, the imitation pearls that have been manufactured on the island since the 19th century and recognized worldwide for their quality and perfection. Many shops have good prices and selection of Spain’s Lladro porcelain figurines.  Mallorca is also rich in popular handicrafts, and has turned traditional pieces of the island’s culture into souvenirs. Good examples are siurells, ancestral earthenware figures painted in bright colors. Other handicrafts are ceramics and artistic glassware.
