Island of Menorca Cathedral
Smaller and quieter than Mallorca, Menorca is the second largest of the Balearic Islands. Located just 21 miles from Mallorca, the island is home to as many beaches as Mallorca and Ibiza combined. Yet, the island has resisted development and over the years there have been few changes. Visitors are attracted to its peaceful resorts, charming villages, and tranquil environment. Although locals speak a dialect of Catalan called Menorqui, most are also fluent Spanish speakers.
Ciudadela

Ciudadela
The small city port of Ciudadela, located on the west coast of Menorca, lies at the head of a narrow, shallow arm of the sea and is surrounded by flat, arid land. The name means fortress in Menorquin, and was first built as a Phoenician city. The beautiful town is marked by vibrant, zigzagging streets and historical structures, including several baroque churches. The city, constructed from stone, has been unspoiled by urban development and showcases typical Catalan architecture from the 15th to the 16th centuries as well as more recent Italian and English buildings. An obelisk stands in the Placa d’es Born, the city’s main square overlooking the port.
The port of Ciudadela is the town’s liveliest area and has numerous restaurants, bars and shops. Career Quadrado also offers some interesting shops and arcades. The Moorish influence is seen in the whitewashed houses in the Voltes, off the Placa s’Esplanada.
