Turkey / Eastern Mediterranean Yacht ChartersTurkey has become one of the most popular areas for yacht charters in the Mediterranean. With more coastline than any other Mediterranean country, you're guaranteed to find a pretty anchorage for your Turkey charter yacht. The Turkish coastline tends to have a few more trees (pine) than the rest of the Mediterranean yacht charter areas, and even has the odd waterfall. Along the coasts of the Eastern Mediterranean, you'll sail within turquoise waters and sheltered bays that were once touched by the Carians, Lycians, Greeks, Romans and Byzantines. You can also sail upon ancient ruins and archeological sites including Greek cities, sunken Roman harbors and crusader castles.

Drop anchor in the crystal clear cove of Tersane and spend your day snorkeling in the turquoise waters; Meander your way through the marble street of ancient Ephesus; Visit Kizilkuyruk Koyu with its famous beaches and magnificent sunsets; Sail to Ekincik with its stunning red cliffs and steep wooded slopes; Visit the ruins of ancient Caunos; Soak in the sunken Turkish baths of Cleopatra at Haman, or simply enjoy the culinary delights and lively dining at a colorful seaside cafe.

So many aspects make Turkey a delightful yacht charter location. The popularity of Turkey as a sailing destination lies as much in the fantastic Mediterranean climate as it does with the undeniable charm of its shores. With stunning coastlines dotted with hundred of coves and bays and an endless myriad of history and culture to explore, Turkey has an undeniable charm and intrigue.

Charter Yachts Along the Turkish Coast

Weather

Turkey’s Mediterranean climate means mild winters and hot summers. July and August temperatures can rise above 86 degrees and showers are unlikely.

The Mediterranean enjoys 315 cloudless days per year. During the peak of yacht charter season, between April and October, the skies are blue and the waters are warm. In midsummer, yacht charter guests enjoy glorious sunsets and long evenings under gentle winds and still seas.

Language

Turkish is the official language, but English is widely understood in the main tourist areas.

Currency

The local currency is the New Turkish Lira (YTL Yeni Turkish Lira). The Kurus are the coins: 100 Kurus equals 1 YTL. Prices are very good in Turkey, but the exchange rate varies daily and can be dramatic. Dollars and euros are accepted eagerly, so it is advised to use them for large purchases for possible greater discounts. Local currency is recommended for use on smaller items as well as food and drink.

Food

The cuisine in Turkey reflects a meeting point between Asia and Europe. Apart from the traditional shish kebabs and raki, there are amazingly fresh vegetables and good wine available, along with other provisions in the marinas. The biggest yacht charter base in Turkey is Bodrum which boasts the magnificent Knights of Rhodes fortress.

Best Buys

Marmaris is a shopper’s paradise, especially for items such as carpets, leather, ceramics and jewelry. For great values, visit the Carsi Market in the Ottoman Castle, home to 200-odd shops and a flea market that’s open seven days a week. Netsel Marina is the place to find original designer clothing. Most vendors expect haggling and it is possible to knock about 30 percent off the asking price. However, throughout Marmaris and Turkey, beware of vendors selling fake designer goods.
