Gulf of Fethiye
The Gulf of Fethiye is a favorite luxury yacht charter destination in Turkey. The Gulf of Fethiye is one of the most beautiful gulfs in the world due to the multiple tones of blues and greens of its waters and an encircling mainland that reaches to the sea with trees that reach the water’s edge with outreaching branches. The location has attracted people since ancient times because of its natural beauty and resources. It was once known as the Land of Heros during the Lycian civilization and archaeological evidence indicates this region was a difficult spot for Alexander the Great during his campaign to the East. The Romans, Byzantines, Seljuk Turks and Ottomans also left traces in the area that was strategic in ancient sea trade routes.
Gemiler Island
There are 12 forest-covered islands scattered over the gulf, situated between the capes of Kurtoglu and Iblis. The inlets provide ideal shelters for charter yachts. The Iblis headland marks the southern end of the Gulf of Fethiye and just to the east of the headland lies Gemiler Island. The island is filled with Lycian ruins, including a covered walkway built, according to local legend, by a father to protect his beautiful daughter. Among the medieval buildings on the island is a church and on the hills are ruins of a mosaic decorated palace. On the northern side are remains of a partially submerged quay and warehouse. Opposite the charter yacht anchorage is a restaurant.
