Tersane Island Bay
The largest island in the Gulf of Fethiye is Tersane. A deep channel provides easy entry to the inlet of Tersane and the eastern side of the bay provides a protected anchorage for charter yachts. According to ancient sources the island, named Telandria, was used as a ship dockyard during the Ottoman period. The island was inhabited in the past as is evidenced by the many ruined houses, fruit trees and goat herds. However, islanders migrated to Rhodes in 1922 after Greece and Turkey agreed to exchange the foreign populations in the two countries. There are also remains of two churches and a tomb. A restaurant on the island is a good place for charter yacht visitors to lunch and north of the island is Summer Port, a lovely swimming area.

"We asked for history, and got it cruising the Ancient Trading Route along southern Turkey. So much to see, and all along a gorgeous coast with lovely water. I think it must be far easier to see this area by sea than land."
