Overhead view of Tobago Cays
The jewel of the Caribbean, the Tobago Cays is a group of four small, uninhabited islands that are surrounded by the extensive Horseshoe Reef. A fifth island lies outside the reef. The spectacular, shallow Horseshoe Reef is a two-mile snorkeler’s paradise. With a water depth of from five to 12 feet, the bright corals and tropical fish are vibrantly reflected by bright sunshine penetrating the crystal clear waters. Waters behind the reef range from eight to ten feet deep and the white sandy bottom, covered by clear water, seems to turn bright emerald in bright sunshine.

Horseshoe Reef Snorkeling
Each of the five islands has beautiful beaches. At night, boat venders will offer beach barbecues.
The area is actually a government designated conservation area called the Tobago Cays Marine Park. Its mission is to protect and conserve this fragile ecosystem. As such, fishing is not allowed, nor are water toys such as jet or water skis. Dinghys must be moored as anchoring disturbs the coral reef. Yachts can anchor behind Horseshoe Reef and around the islands in sand only.
