NEW ENGLAND
Charter Itinerary

Newport, Block Island, Martha's Vineyard,
Nantucket, and Hyannis

Bowan's Wharf Newport
Edgartown Harbor, Martha's Vinyard

Day One:
Board your yacht  in Newport, RI.  There are several "must do" things in Newport, "the city by the sea."  Visit the mansions, walk the Cliff Walk, be sure to visit  the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the Museum of Yachting, or "Antique Alley", which is a cluster of antique shops grouped on Spring and Thames Street. Depart Newport for Martha's Vineyard.

Day Two:
Just 12 miles off the coast of Rhode Island is Block Island, a seven-mile long by three-mile wide quiet island. Within the 25 square miles there are 17 miles of pristine beaches and a varied terrain of hills, hundreds of freshwater ponds, 2000 miles of stone walls and a unique variety of flora and fauna. After lunch, explore the island by bike as there are several bike rental areas near the harbor.

Day Three:
Leave for Cuttyhunk, the bottom of the chain of islands below Cape Cod. Enjoy lunch in Cuttyhunk Harbor before taking a hike to the islands highest point, which is a "must see" for a spectacular view.  If hiking isn't your thing, swim or relax with cocktails as the sun sets.

Day Four:
In the morning depart for Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, an elegant port that takes itself and its yachting seriously. As the "Vineyard's" oldest and wealthiest town, Edgartown is equally impressive ashore. Go for a stroll down the cobblestone streets or walk the beaches of the famous Chappaquiddick point or just relax and enjoy this quaint historic town.

Day Five:
It's a short sail to Nantucket, so named by Native Americans, which means "land far out to sea". Take a tour of the whaling museum and the cranberry bogs. Then walk down the historical cobblestone streets visitng the many shops, or explore the far reaches of the inner harbor.

Day Six:
In the morning sail to Hyannis. Calling itself Cape Cod's "Hub" the town is packed with restaurants, nice shops, hotels and people. After dropping the anchor go for a tender ride to explore its shoreline, or to go ashore for a sight seeing tour. After a relaxing lunch sail onto Hadley's Harbor, a pristene deep water anchorage off of Woods Hole to overnight.

Day Seven:            After breakfast a return sail to Newport to shop, dine, and unwind. If time permits take a nice  afternoon tour of the Newport Winery and rolling hill countryside. Disembark.

Off With The Dust Covers... Time for Charter in New England!!

Bowan's Wharf Newport

 Bowen's Wharf, Newport, RI

Memorial Day heralds the opening of the New England Season.  Awnings roll out over the sidewalks, wicker furniture repopulates the porches, and the dust covers come off the furniture at the summer cottages.

Out in the islands, seasonal restaurants shake off the winter and open up for a new summer season, and across New England, all the harbors welcome the return of summer yachting.

Around mid May, those sailing yachts that were in the Caribbean for the winter start to blow into the harbor in Newport, Rhode Island at all times of the day and night.  Go to bed with an empty harbor; look out your window in the morning, and old friends have slipped in during the night. Towards the end of May and beginning of June, the powerboats that were in the Caribbean, Florida, and Bahamas for the winter steam up the eastern coast of America and add their noises to a busier and busier Newport Harbor.

Newport seems to be the gathering spot for arrival. Once here, either the daily business for the season is begun, or yachts are sailed or cruised on to other just as welcoming New England locations for their summer season.

Charter a sailing yacht or motor yacht in New England through Northrop and Johnson Yacht Charters and enjoy the coastline, and the islands of both southern New England, such as Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, and Maine.  And for fish or shellfish lovers, lobster and clam bakes on the beach are waiting for you, or oysters and clams on the half shell, grilled swordfish, pan fried sea scallops, haddock steaks, or sea bass in a reduction sauce, all freshly caught from the surrounding waters.

Featured Yacht:  NANTUCKET LIGHTSHIP

Once floating fourty-five miles Southeast of Nantucket Island to warn cross Atlantic and coastal shipping of the notorious Nantucket South Shoals, the NANTUCKET LIGHTSHIP was the last lightship in use in the United States, decommissioned by the U.S Coast Guard in 1985, making it truly legendary.  Adding to this history, the Nantucket Lightship Keepers were the first weavers of the famous Nantucket Basket, woven on board to while away the hours keeping watch.

With a completely new interior, the Nantucket Lightship now provides an elegant living space, while staying true to its historical background. Available for charter this summer in New England.

The Latest News:  Yacht Charter Broker Shows

What's it all About? Information, Information, Information.  As a Yacht Charter Broker, we are all about information, and, our goal at Northrop and Johnson Yacht Charters is to have the BEST INFORMATION.  What is the right yacht and crew for our upcoming charter?  What will we do and see while on our charter?  My favorite Captain is Captain Ron...is he still running a yacht for charter?  We have important food requirements, what are the qualifications of the Chef?  Is this charter location safe? These questions, and many more, are all important questions to ask about your yacht charter interest, and we want to have the best answers.

Yacht Charter is not a product that can be stored on the shelf, so we travel to find those answers.  At the opening of the yacht charter season for each worldwide area, our industry organizes "industry only" Yacht Charter Shows.  Entered into the show are yachts that will be available for charter in that area for the upcoming season with their Captain and full crew on board.  Also attending the show are various industry members that are have support business for yacht charter, such as location ship agents, marina operators, provisioners, etc. with whom we can meet during the time period to hear new news, discuss upcoming charters, and make any final arrangements needed on a personal basis.

The attending yachts are all lined up along the quay and open for Charter Broker visits, with the yacht and crew outfitted as they would be when you, the Charterer, are on board.  As the Charter Broker, we see old friends, meet new friends, review new business, and check condition and maintenance.  All the while determining whether the yacht should still be on our list of recommended yachts for charter or is, perhaps, a great new yacht to add to our list.

This May, we will be attending the Genoa Yacht Charter Show for the opening of the Western Mediterranean Season, and the Marmaris Yacht Charter Show, for the opening of the Turkish Season.
