Charter Itinerary from M/Y Sherakhan
Patagonia, Chile
Day 1: Embark in Pinta Arenas, after you have settled in on the Sherakhan, leave to Puerto Hope. Puerto Hope has a wonderful natural harbor sitting between high mountains covered with beautiful forests.
Day 2: In the morning leave Puerto Hope to reach Seno Agostini. Seno Agostini runs SE, between spectacular peaks and impressive tidewater glaciers. The scenery is among the best in Tierra del Fuego. At the end of the channel you will see two spectacular walls of ice, which are part of Cordillera Darwin. In the evening arrive at the Caleta Escandallo to spend the night. Caleta Escandallo is a wide bay surrounded by magnificent scenery. Monte Sariento is close by for hiking expeditions.
Day 3: Leave Caleta Escandallo in the morning to cruise to Punta
Piramida. From there it is 30 minutes sailing to our destination of
Fiordo Alacaluf. At the end of Fiordo Alacaluf is a magnificent double
faced glacier. We will also see a large waterfall and Cormorant nests on
the cliff near the glacier. Glaciers in Patagonia
Day 4: In
the morning sail through Canal Cockburn to Seno Ocasion. Seno Ocasion
is one of the most spectacular areas of Tierra del Fuego. At the head
there is a wide, circular basin surrounded by high peaks and vertical
granite walls. It's a wonderful place to hike with a sparkling emerald
lake just ten minutes away spilling into a waterfall into the basin. An easy
hour's climb up from the basisn is rewarded with spectacular views in all directions. Day
5: Sail through Canal Ballenero and Brazo Noroeste towards Seno
Garibaldi. Seno Garibaldi cuts between high mountains and is headed by
one of the finest glaciers in the area. This glacier is particularly
active, with huge ice blocks calving off of the glacier
face into the water. A sea lion colony lives in the inlet, which is easily
located by their noisy howls.
Day 6: Cruise from Seno Garibladi to Seno Pia, which is truly
spectacular with a direct view of a pillared façade of ice rising out of
the water. Drop anchor in Caleta Beaulieu and spend the night.
Day
7: This last leg of the itinerary will cruise through the beautiful
Beagle Channel towards Ushuaia. The Southernmost city in the world,
Ushuaia is located in a dramatic setting beneath the jagged peaks of the
Montes Martial, which rise from sea level to more than 130m. On the
waterfront, there are three great museums, offering exhibits on Fuegian
natural history, aboriginal life, the early penal colonies, and offering a rare
opportunity to see Andean condors, though unfortunately stuffed, not
live. One museum is inside a now closed prison featuring one of the best
collections of Antarctic ship models in the world.
Day 8: Disembark in Ushuaia.
