Enjoy the fantastic scenery of western Norway as you cruise some of the most famous and beautiful fjords in the region and visit glaciers and waterfalls. Be charmed by the coastal scenery where the mountains meet the sea as you thread your way amongst a multitude of islands under a sun that barely sets.

 

Join your yacht in Bergen - "The Gateway to the Fjords of Norway."  Situated where sea and mountains meet, Bergen is a city where visitors are greeted with open arms.  It is the birthplace of composer Edvard Grieg. Other main attractions include Bryggen, the fish market and the funicular Floibanen to the top of Mt. Floyen.  From here you cruise along the Hjeltefjorden to an anchorage at Vikingvagen where you'll overnight.

 

After breakfast, enter the longest fjord in Norway which is famed for its beauty.  This is a wild grand place with depths in the fjord of up to 1300 meters and snow capped mountains over 1400 meters high.

 

 

Bergen

 

 

Cruise along Sognefjorden to enter Fjaerlandsfjorden and penetrate close to the magnificent Jostedal glacier.  Anchor at Fjarland for a visit to the glacier museum and perhaps arrange a tour to the glacier for the following morning.

 

Fjarland is an idyllic farming village within reach of two arms of the awesome Jostedal Glacier:  the Supphellebreen (where you can walk to the very edge of the ice) and the creaking blue-iced Boyabreen.  After breakfast you may choose to take a spectacular guided trip to the nearby glacier before sailing back down Sognefjorden to anchor near the mouth at Listraumen. Alternatively, enjoy some watersports or walk ashore to relax and  enjoy the gorgeous scenery.

 

Much of this day will be spent threading through the islands of this lovely coastline, enjoying the views of mountains and coastal farms before anchoring near Rugsand at the entrance of Nordfjorden. Enjoy cocktails and some local cuisine prepared by the chef on board.

 

The glaciers, fjord, sea and mountains of Nordfjord have some of the finest scenery Norway has to offer.  In the morning, sail along the fjord and take Isefjorden and Hendvikfjorden to Sandane.  Overnight at Sandane.  

 

In the morning, explore Sandane with a visit to the Nordfjord Folkemuseum which has 40 old houses of historical interest, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries.  Many of the houses are furnished as they were originally. Also kept here is the characteristic Holvikjekta sea vessel.  Golfers may want to play at the 6 hole picturesque Sandane golf course.  In the afternoon sail back along the Fjord and make for Selje to overnight.

 

 

Fjarland 

 

Spend time in the morning to enjoy a visit to Selje Spa Thalasso, which specializes in algae therapy. Alternatively, visit Selje Monastery, founded on the spot where St. Sunniva came ashore and had to hide from the Vikings.  Or take a run along the beautiful nearby beach and indulge in some watersports. On leaving Selje cruise in a more open sea route and head up the coast to Alesund.  Overnight in Alesund.

 

After breakfast, visit the charming town of Alesund, beautifully situated in several islands, and internationally renowned for its Art Nouveau architecture.  After a town fire in 1904 Alesund was rebuilt in a distinctive architectural style with turrets, spires and imaginative ornamentation.

 

In the afternoon cruise to Geiranger, the crowning glory among Norway's fjord district's pearls of natural beauty with Majestic, snow-covered mountain peaks, beautiful and wild waterfalls, lush, green vegetation and the deep blue waters of the fjord. Overnight.

 

Spend the mooring at Geiranger with the opportunity to take the walk up to the Storseterfossen waterfall where you can walk behind the waterfall.

 

For the less energetic perhaps a visit to the Norsk Fjordsenter to understand the people who lived along the fjord - what they were like and how they lived.  The centre also contains an art gallery with works for sale by well known Norwegian artists.

 

 

Nordfjord 

 

In the afternoon, there will be plenty of time for pictures of the spectacular falls along Geiranger fjord as you slowly cruise along with perhaps a visit to one of the other side fjords.
