Ionian Islands

Brindisi - Zaykinthos

Corfu

Corfu  - Streets of Old Town

Day 1:        Explore the glory of Venice before flying to Brindisi to join your yacht. Depart for Corfu, a 50 nautical mile  cruise.

Day 2: Corfu is the most fought-over, romantic and cosmopolitan of all the Ionian Islands.  Homer tells us that Odysseus found shelter in Corfu at the end of his wanderings.  Corfu Town is presided over by two imposing Venetian fortresses and Renaissance-style city squares.  Enjoy its museums and the sound and light show at the old fort.

Anchor between Kanoni and Mouse Island on the tip of a small peninsula south of Corfu's town center to visit the much photographed Monastery of Vlachema.  Visit the tiny island of Pondikonissi, crowned by a 13th Century church, or enjoy a round at the excellent Corfu Golf club.

Day 3:       Fifteen miles south of Corfu sits tiny Paxos, a major producer of fine olive oil with some orchards dating back to the Venetian occupation (1204-1550).  Seven spectacular caves on the western coast include Ipapanti, Homer's cave.

Navigate the ancient Levkas Canal and enter the charming harbor of Lefkada, named for the white cliff from which Sappho supposedly flung herself in the 6th century B.C.  Shops around the harbor sell traditional lace. Dinner on board.

Day 4:  En route to Ithaki you will see many Caiques, the traditional sailing boat of Greece.Ithaca town is a small, hospitable place full of Homerian history and coves with crystal-clear water.

Day 5: Kefalonia is the largest island with forests offering beautiful walks.  Kefalonian wines are unlike those of the rest of Greece due to the introduction of the Robola grape in the 13th century.  The archetypical fishing village of Fiskardo is popular with visiting yachts.

Day 6: Zakinthos, colonized by the Venetians is very reminiscent of Venice. On one side of the port is St Dennis Cathedral and on the other side the picturesque Main Town.  The view of the port and the town from above is simply breathtaking and even more enjoyable from one of the many open-air cafes.

Day 7:  Disembark on Zakinthos.

Let's Go Greece!

Sunset Over Shipwreck Bay, Zakynthos

Sunset in Zakynthos

With beautiful crystal clear waters, and over 6000 islands waiting, there is still very good availability and pricing on both motor and sailing yachts for a crewed yacht charter this summer in the Greek Islands....and very good prices!  Consider a charter through the Saronic Islands of Greece visiting, Poros, Hydra, Spetses and Aegina.  Or set sail for the Cycladic Islands (if the Meltemi Winds allow) to visit Santorini, Mykonos and the sacred island of Delos.  In the northwest corner of the Aegean Sea, are the islands of Skiathos and Skopelos, where the beautiful beaches and waters were used as a set location for filming many of the scenes for the movie Mama Mia! Add a visit to the island of Alonissos, while cruising through the Sporadic Islands, as this island, the surrounding waters, and the any little islets form a large marine park, chocker block full of seals, dolphins, and other species enjoying the protected waters. A cruise through the Corinth Canal unveils the beautiful Ionian Islands stretching from Zakynthos to Corfu for a yacht charter cruise through beautiful waters, and past some of the nicest beaches in the world, all protected from the Meltemi Winds.  There is a huge amount to see and do when cruising through the islands of Greece in the Aegean and Adriatic Seas, and a great many yachts and crews waiting to introduce you to their most favorite anchorages, beaches, tavernas, and islands on a crewed yacht charter of the Greek Islands.
