Camden - Camden
7 day Itinerary
Day One: Join your yacht in Camden Harbor. Visit the many shops and restaurants near the waterfront. Leave Camden to explore Penobscot Bay. Either cruise down towards Owls Head or across to Islesboro Island. Anchor off Pulpit Harbor, one of the prettiest and most protected anchorages on the coast.
Day Two: After breakfast head east through Fox Island Thorofare and head southeast to the area called Merchant's Row that is south of Deer Isle. There are many islands here with beautiful small coves. One favorite is between McGlathery's and Round Island. There is also a good cove on the north side of McGlathery's. Both islands are owned by Conservation Groups and are great for exploration.
Day Three: Cruise down to Vinalhaven, the southernmost of the larger islands in Penobscot Bay. With its rugged shoreline, satellite islands, and scores of coves and anchorages. The eastern shore is full of gunkholes (deep indentations which may dry out at low tide) to explore.
After having lunch, make your way over to Winter Harbor, one of the most rustic and unspoiled anchorages in Vinalhaven. Be sure to visit Seal Bay, equal to Winter Harbor for its unspoiled scenic beauty.
Day Four: A short early morning cruise will have you on the Isle au Haut, a great place to stretch your legs, with over 30 miles of hiking trails belonging to Acadia National Park. Or stop at Butter Island, west of Deer Isle. It's a great day stop for a beach picnic or a walk up Montserrat Hill for a wonderful view of the surrounding islands.
After lunch cruise to Northeast Harbor. On the main street you will find attractive galleries and boutiques. Take a taxi ride up to one of the many trails offered by Acadia National Park.
Day Five: Leave early for Hancock Point in Frenchman's Bay. Sorrento Harbor in Frenchman Bay has beautiful views of Cadillac Mountain and Mount Desert Island. Enjoy a seafood lunch before cruising back to Bar Harbor.
Very interesting art galleries, gourmet grocery, general stores and wine shops line Cottage Street. Take a ride up Cadillac Mountain for an incredible view of the surrounding islands.
Day 6: After finishing breakfast, cruise up Eggemoggin Reach. If you get away early you can go around the north end of Long Island and then south-southwest to the mouth of the Reach. Eggemoggin Reach is often clear of fog even when it is thick elsewhere, and as its name implies, you can usually reach either up or down. If you fancy classic wooden boats, swing by Center Harbor and check out the beauties that are usually floating about in close proximity to Joel White's yard. After lunch continue on to Buck's Harbor and enter on either side of Harbor Island.
Day 7: Before breakfast enjoy a brisk walk ashore. Then cross over to Dark Harbor, Islesboro Island for lunch. It's a short cruise across to Camden for your last night aboard.
Day 8: Disembark in Camden.

Relax and Cool Down East this Summer Cruising in Maine!
Featured Destination: MAINE
......And while you cool down, enjoy a bounty of fresh cold water seafood. Have you ever had a Maine lobster cooked "in the wild" on a bed of fresh seaweed in clean salt water? How about oysters and clams plucked right out of the water and opened on board? Or fresh swordfish steaks grilled over a wood burning barbeque? Maine is home to the best cold water seafood that New England has to offer. And all can be enjoyed while cruising the pristine waters through the pine covered islands along the Maine coast. Here the very essence of New England is distilled into the small coastal towns, lighthouses and beautiful anchorages found throughout these cruising waters. The season is July and August, but don't be afraid to stay into September, which is one of the nicest cruising months in New England.
At Northrop and Johnson Yacht Charters, Maine is our backyard; we are very knowledgeable about the area, and look forward to helping you with a summer charter in this location. |

Marmaris, Turkey - Yacht Charter Show
The Latest News:
Recent and Upcoming Yacht Charter Industry Shows
Northrop and Johnson Yacht Charters just attended the Genoa Yacht Charter Show and the Marmaris Yacht Charter Festival held in Italy and Turkey respectively to show off the charter fleet and crew for the coming season in each location. As always, we are very glad that we did! There are more new charter yachts than ever entering into charter in the Western and Eastern Mediterranean and we were very pleased with what we saw.
There were very good powerboats from a family budget size to outstanding luxury in Genoa. In Turkey, we were very happy with the newest Gulets that are bigger and more luxurious than ever before. We were very pleased to see that Turkey is a step ahead in on board communications, offering on board unlimited wireless internet connection via very good GSM cellular connection at no additional cost on many of the luxury Gulets.
Next month, during the 3rd week in June, Newport, RI will be the next industry charter show location, with charter yachts on display for the New England 2009 summer season. We generally have 50-60 yachts to visit, both new and ones with which we are very familiar and pleased to see.
We will keep you updated, of course, with what we see at this show, that takes place right in our harbor, so stay tuned to our Twitter and Blog.
