November
2008:
The current worldwide
financial situation has impacted charter pricing and
created many discounted charter pricing
opportunities. Some Owners are reducing prices,
some are converting prices from Euros to USD, and
some Owners are offering 8 days for the price of
7.
If you
are thinking about chartering, now is the time.
Take advantage of the low pricing opportunities now
happening. With an economic rebound, pricing could
return to previous levels.
Please inquire for charter
specials.
To
stay on top of all the information, brokers
Carolyn Titus and Missy Johnston will be traveling to
industry charter shows this coming December in
the Caribbean to inspect yachts and review crews.

Happy
Thanksgiving!
Talk Charter in Turkey on Turkey
Day
What better time to
talk with family and friends about chartering in Turkey
this summer than during the Thanksgiving Turkey Day
holiday. Bring family and friends together by
chartering a Turkish Gulet to cruise the southern coast
of Turkey along the ancient trading route. This
area of clear turquoise waters is peppered with ancient
ruins from various civilizations. Hike through the
ruins, snorkel over an ancient harbor, or simply swim
from and sun on the decks of your private Gulet in
glorious clear blue waters.
Built along traditional lines, the Gulet is a large,
wooden, beamy vessel with roomy staterooms each
with ensuite baths. While not meant for
performance sailing, in fact the sails may only be used
occasionally for steadying; the Gulet is ideal as a very
comfortable floating platform from which to enjoy the
waters and shoreline of Turkey. With wide padded
sunning areas, large on deck gathering areas and dining
tables, the Gulet offers relaxation and fun for groups
of 6 to 12 guests. Northrop and Johnson Yacht
Charters consider the Turkish Gulet to be one of the
best charter values in the world.
Of course, there are other
yachts available for charter in these beautiful
waters. If your taste runs to more modern sail or to
motor yacht charter, there are yachts available for you
too. We visit Turkey constantly to inspect all
yachts available in this area and have cruised the
coastline extensively, allowing us to pass on the most
accurate and up-to-date information to our
clients.
We look forward to helping you plan a
memorable charter experience!

Destination:
Turkey
The country name "Turkey" is derived from an
ancient word for turquoise, for indeed, the waters along
the Turkish shore are lovely, ever- changing shades of
just that color.....turquoise. This shoreline,
once hotly contested for many centuries as an important
trading route, is now, for the modern day sailor, a
relaxed, beautiful, cruising area along a shoreline
harboring countless remnants of these past
civilizations, offering a constantly unfolding
slice of history,
and culture against a beautiful backdrop.
Cruise out of Bodrum and visit the ruins of Knidos,
anchoring in the same ancient harbor of clear turquoise
waters as civilizations did long ago. Sail over
ancient wrecks and visit the underwater archaeology
museum in the 15th century crusader castle in Bodrum,
housing relics from modern marine excavations.
Visit Marmaris, with the shell of the castle behind the
main quay, surrounded by a labyrinth of alleys of the
local bazaar. Sit stern-to on the quay and listen
to the modern bazaar merchants still hawking their wares
of spices, handmade rugs, brass, and jewelry, or try
your hand at bargaining. Cruise up the Dalyan
River in flat bottomed river boats to tour the ancient
ruins of Caunos, and see the Lycian tombs in the
cliffside. Moor near the remains of Cleopatra's
Baths in Gocek Bay. Picnic under pine trees, where
wild boars may have sharpened their tusks.
Dine on fresh Turkish food at the local Taverna, or on
board, on the deck, under the stars with your private
chef. Swim in the clear turquoise waters, or
snorkel over ancient harbors. What ever you
choose to do, a charter in Turkey is a unique experience
in warm clear waters.
The charter period is generally mid May to mid
October. The charter area in Turkey is usually
from Bodrum to Kas. Clearance is now allowed to
visit the Dodecanese Greek Islands in this area for an
additional customs fee. There are airports in
Bodrum, Dalaman (near Gocek and Marmaris) and Antalya
for easy access, or a hydrofoil ferry to Marmaris from
the Greek island of Rhodes, or to Bodrum from the Greek
islands of Kos.
A wide range of crewed Gulets, modern sailing
yachts and motor yachts are available depending on your
charter time of interest.
Northrop and Johnson Yacht Charters is very versed
on the yachts available, charter itineraries and the
best ways to travel to and from this enchanting charter
destination. |

Charter For a
Sailing Regatta
We always thought bareboat was the only way to go
if you wanted to participate in a regatta on a charter
yacht. Not so. In fact there is a wide range
of high performance, fully outfitted sailing yachts
available for racing charters.
Let's take the Heineken Regatta in St.
Maarten for example. This year dates are set for
March 5th through the 8th. A four day regatta
charter allows one to take part in the racing, but
consider chartering for a week or ten days and get some
cruising in as well. A three or four day cruise
before or after the regatta could include visits to
Anguilla and St. Barths, or a ten day charter would
allow you to sail to Saba, Nevis and St. Kitts before
heading back to the cold.
We also offer villa rentals, as most
yachts do not accommodate your race crew of twelve
maximum. Perhaps not all of your friends and
family wish to join in the racing - rent a villa and do
day sails from St. Maarten to St. Barths for lunch and
return to the villa in the evenings. Day trips to
Tintamarre, off St. Maarten, or Grand Case for lunch,
snorkeling and a swim are a great way to combine racing
and cruising.
Consider also, chartering a
"mothership" to accommodate extra race crew. A
mothership allows those who do not wish to race to
spectate the racing and feel more involved. At the
end of the day, tie up to the mothership have a swim and
enjoy some cocktails while chatting about the race
day.
Some yachts available include Swan 100S
VIRAGO, Swan 77 VESPER and Swan 70 BLUE PEARL, to name a
few. Caribbean Regattas
include
St. Maarten Heineken
Regatta: 5 - 8 March 2009 Culebra
Heineken Regatta: 12 - 16 March
2009 St Thomas Rolex Regatta:
28 - 30 March 2009 British Virgin Island
Spring Regatta: 28 March - 5 April
2009 Antigua Sailing Week:
25 - 30 April 2009
Pricing varies depending
on Class you wish to race in. Cruising Class rates
usually 25% premium on the regular weekly charter
rate. Full on racing rates depend on the sail
inventory requested and duration of
regatta. |
