Marmaris, Turkey, Yacht Charter Show
Marmaris, Turkey

We were just traveling in Turkey and the country deserves a big Hip Hip Hooray for the extent of wireless internet connections available on both luxury Gulets and yachts and the various hotels that we stayed in. The signal was very good, and best of all….the wireless use was FREE on both the luxury Gulets and yachts and in the hotels. Read the rest of this entry »

Greece and Turkey; Cruising between two countries

Main Harbor in Symi, Greece
Main Harbor in Symi, Greece

We are on board the 44 meter Gulet, Mare Nostrum cruising from Marmaris, Turkey to Bodrum, Turkey. Last night we anchored in the lovely cove of Serce Limani, with our view, looking directly out of the cove, of the Greek island of Rhodes. Today, we are cruising along the coast of Turkey to the village of Datca, Turkey, and are actually closer to the Greek island of Symi. Once we approach Bodrum, we will skim right by the Greek island of Kos, which is only 9 miles from Bodrum. This cruising area is truly a cruising area of two countries. Read the rest of this entry »

Mare Nostrum; Turkish Gulet for charter

Mare Nortrum
Mare Nostrum

We are presently on board Mare Nostrum, cruising along the southern coast of Turkey from Marmaris to Bodrum. We have on board with us Kim Kavin, of Charterwave, who is on board to write an article about Mare Nostrum and chartering in Turkey for a prominent yachting magazine. We just finished our first day of cruising out of Marmaris and are anchored in a lovely little cove called Serce Limani. Mare Nostrum at 44 meters, and just launched last year, is one of the great new Gulets available for charter along the southern coast of Turkey that we feel is representative of what a top level luxury Gulet offers today. Even now as I write, I am connected to the on board wireless, which is offered free of charge, while sitting in Serce Limani, far away from everything, except clear blue waters, and the Turkish countryside. Charter Turkey and Shop the Bazaars!

Istanbul Turkey, Spice Bazaar
Spice Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey

A “must do” experience in Turkey is visiting the bazaars that are part of any reasonable sized Turkish town, with the mother lode, of course in Istanbul. A bazaar visit is an experience in its own right, and time should be set aside, not just to shop, but to “negotiate”, as any good bazaar shop keeper expects a negotiation on the price and is ready to play the game. Particularly with rug shopping, where you can usually get a much better price on a handmade rug than at home, and the quality of the rugs are usually higher than what we see back at home. In addition, a good rug merchant will tell you how the rug is woven, and where. And will also tell you the story behind the rug, who the weaver was and what story the rug is telling through the pattern. All of this can make the rug a much more personal purchase and you can take home a piece of artistry with a story. Read the rest of this entry »

New and Improved Gulets! Marmaris Yacht Charter Festival

We are in Marmaris Turkey this week for the Marmaris Yacht Charter Festival and have been very impressed with the quality of the latest launched Gulets. The improvement is fantastic. The Owners have been listening to us Charter Brokers and are building Gulets that will give sailing and motor yachts true competition, and yet the Gulets are still a great pricing value. Now there are Gulet choices starting at Euro 9,000/week plus VAT and expenses for 6 guests up to euro 42,000/week inclusive of expenses for 10 guests that are well worth considering for a charter along the Turkish Coast.

Istanbul, Turkey; The Bosphorus Straits

Hagia Sofia, Turkey
Hagia Sofia

Where East meets West, along the Bosphorus Straits in Istanbul, creates a city that is a masterpiece in cultural diversity. This city, first known as Byzantium and then Constantinople, is now known as Istanbul, with an extensive history that has left a unique stamp on the face of this city. The extent of yacht chartering in Istanbul is a day charter in the Bosphorus Straits, perhaps to the mouth of the Black Sea or in other directions to see the many summer palaces that grace these shores. The yacht charter waters in Turkey are in southern Turkey, along the ancient trading routes. However everyone should stop in Istanbul on the way to or from southern Turkey to explore this city. We are here in Istanbul now for a stopover to refresh our memories of this lovely city on our way to the Marmaris Yacht Charter Show. Read the rest of this entry »

Genoa, Italy; The Overlooked Yacht Charter Destination

Genoa, Italy
Genoa, Italy

Located right at the crook of the panhandle for Italy, along the Ligurian Coast, Genoa is often overlooked as a yacht charter port for this cruising area. While, in fact, Genoa is a great starting and or ending location for any charter in this area. The international airport is right on the harbor and only 15 minutes away from a boarding marina, and there are several very good marinas easily accessible. As a large maritime commercial harbor, Genoa offers great yachting facilities and of course, great fresh Italian food and wines for charter provisioning, including Pesto which originated in Genoa. But Genoa also has a fascinating history of its own and is worth spending an afternoon to explore. Read the rest of this entry »

Now here is a yacht, where the Chief Stewardess lets you know what is on the Special Cocktails menu with a print out of special T. J. Esperanza Cocktail Recipes. T.J. Esperanza is a 50 Meter Amels that has just entered back into the yacht charter market place with a new Owner. Suitable for 10 guests in 5 guest staterooms, this yacht also has an extra double occupancy stateroom, called an entourage room, for any nannies, or spa therapists etc. that a charter guest might want to bring on board for charter as a part of their “entourage”. We were just on board today and were very pleased with the yacht, and with the Chief Stewardess for sharing her cocktail recipes. Read the rest of this entry »

Motor Yacht Galaxy; Genoa Yacht Charter Show

Yacht Galaxy
Galaxy

We were pleased as always to be back on board Galaxy with Captain Dughall and his wife Poppie as Chief Stewardess today at the Myba Charter Show in Genoa, Italy. Galaxy, at 56 meters, is a beautifully built Benetti, launched in 2005, with 6 guest staterooms for a total of 12 guests, each with ensuite bath. Besides a Jacuzzi on the top deck big enough for at least 8 guests at once, there is also an air conditioned gym with a great 360 degree view, and plenty of sun bathing deck lounges. Having just completed the winter season in the Caribbean for charter, Galaxy is back in the Western Mediterranean for the summer ready for another great charter season. Read the rest of this entry »

Motoryacht Lionshare; Genoa Charter Yacht Show

Motor Yacht lionshare
Lionshare

We were very pleased to revisit Lionshare, the 131′ Heesen Motoryacht here at the Genoa Charter show. Lionshare has been offered for charter for a number of years, however continues to look very good. With Captain Greg Havens on board, and a great team of crew, totaling 8, this yacht continues to offer a great charter every charter. Captain Greg updated us today that he has now been on board this yacht for 11 years, so he certainly knows the yacht well! And, he continually keeps the yacht updated, maintained and refreshed to offer a great charter. The charter rate is outstanding as well, and still priced in USD, which is a great value for the Western Mediterranean. Read the rest of this entry »
