What to See and Enjoy in Camden, Maine

Camden Hills State Park and Mount Battie: Reaching the top of Mount Battie takes about an hour to hike up and an hour to hike down, or drive by car for a stunning views of the surrounding area and islands. Throughout the Park there are a variety of hiking trails, some easy and some no more than footpaths, requiring agility.

Camden Harbor Park and Amphitheatre: Lovely park surrounding the inner harbor, with restaurants and shops. A nice place to sit and relax with a view of the Windjammer Sailing Yachts.

Historic District: Added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1989, the official historic district comprises fifty-eight buildings on High Street between Main Street and Sherman Point Road.

South of Camden lies the thriving arts community of Rockport. Concerts are performed at its 19th century opera house and the village is also home to The Center for Maine Contemporary Art. Both villages are home to some of the Maine windjammer fleet as well, many of which are National Historical Landmarks.

There are plenty of superb restaurants in each town catering to the most discerning of palates. Many specialize in fresh native seafood and not just the must have native Maine lobster. You’ll also find local scallops, mussels, clams, oysters, haddock, salmon and swordfish at many restaurants.

Camden Harbor

In both towns, are unique shops selling items that are evocative of Maine and the ocean. Spend several hours poking in the shops and you are sure to come away with something special. Either Camden or Rockport are an excellent harbor to start and/or end a crewed yacht charter of “Down East” Maine.
